Welcome to my blog! This is (yet another) blog on machine learning and related topics in computer science.
Motivation
At the time of this writing, I am a machine learning developer at SAP, a company that builds enterprise software across various Lines of Businesses (LoB), which is just a fancy way to say Finance, HR, Sales, and the various functions of any company. I joined my current product team two years ago upon finishing my undergraduate degree. On a typical day, I conduct ML research for use cases involving enterprise finance data, develop and ship successful machine learning models, and interact with various stakeholders within the vast world of enterprise software. Some of the stakeholders I collaborate with are from Japan - technical consultants who interact with and gather market requirements from clients. As the only Japanese machine learning developer in the whole company, I naturally became the main point of contact to help build traction within the Japanese market. However, having only received a computer science education in English, I soon found it challenging to explain machine learning concepts in my mother tongue.
After googling the translations of several machine learning terms, it became apparent that Japanese ML jargon is a lot more disjoint from colloquial language compared to English. For example, the Japanese word for “generalisation” is a word I didn’t know existed (汎用化・hannyouka), and the kanji for “convolution” literally means tatami (畳み込み・tatami komi).
I felt I needed to bring my Japanese up to par with my English for machine learning. This was when I conceived of this blog. My main objective of this blog is to practice writing about machine learning in both my native tongues. Hence you will see each article being written in both English and Japanese. At the end of the day, this is a personal challenge to keep both languages on par.
I don’t have a fixed writing schedule so far, but I will maintain a fairly consistent habit of writing (i.e. a post every few weeks). And, like any aspiring blogger, I hope to deliver content that is interesting and useful to the reader.

初めまして！齊藤初雲（しょうん）と申します。このブログでは主に機械学習や コンピューターサイエンスについての記事を投稿していこうと思います。本文章が最初の記事になりますが、 はじめにこのブログの立ち上げの動機について話したいと思います。
動機
現在はSAPというドイツのソフトウェア会社のシンガポールオフィスに機械学習エンジニアとして所属しています。 日々の業務として財務管理等の企業データを基に様々な手動プロセスを自動化する機械学習のソリューションを実装しています （詳細はこちら）。
SAP唯一の日本人データサイエンティストとして日本支社の同僚と連携を取ることも頻繁にあります。 しかし、いざディスカッションやプレゼンを行ってみると、機械学習を日本語で説明することの 難しさに直面することが多々あります。というのも、大学ではコンピュータサイエンスや機械学習を 全て英語で勉強した為、専門用語の和訳は殆ど把握していませんでした(convolution = 畳み込み??)。 したがって機械学習を日本語で説明する際、少なからずのもどかしさがありました。
機械学習の語彙力を高めないといけない、そう感じた時にこのブログを立ち上げようと思いました。 したがって各記事を両言語で書きながら機械学習の解説を練習することが本ブログの最大の目的です。 結果として一つの記事に費やす時間が普通の2倍以上になってしまいますが、語彙力の向上に繋がると思うので コツコツと頑張って行こうと思います。無論、ただ文章を並べるのではなく、読者にとって面白い記事を書くのも 一つの目標なので、内容や書き方等に関してアドバイスを頂けたら幸いです。
